Epoch Master® Formic acid is an organic substance with the chemical formula of HCOOH, molecular weight of 46.03, commonly known as formic acid, which is the simplest carboxylic acid. It is a colorless and pungent liquid. Formic acid belongs to weak electrolyte, but its aqueous solution is weak acidic and corrosive, which can stimulate skin foaming. It usually exists in the secretion of bees, some ants and caterpillars. It is an organic chemical raw material and also used as a disinfectant and antiseptic.
Formic acid can be mixed with water, alcohol, ether and glycerin at will, which is corrosive to skin. Reductant; determination of arsenic, bismuth, aluminum, copper, gold, indium, iron, lead, manganese, mercury, molybdenum, silver and zinc; determination of cerium, rhenium and tungsten; examination of aromatic primary and secondary amines; determination of molecular weight and crystalline solvent; determination of methoxy; used as fixative in microanalysis; manufacture of formates.
